The flower not to be plucked

You sat there, merely looking out at the mountains, and I looked at you; we both looked at what gave us peace.

Walking on the path to the top of the mountain has never been so beautiful—you a little ahead of me. I don't wish to catch up to you; it's really beautiful seeing you ahead of me. You are happy. I am not sure how true it is, but you seem happy. A journey has never been such for me; never have I met such a person. How do you carry such a peace around with you? You walked to the top at your pace, yet it looked as if the whole of nature was dancing along with you and giving you way.

I don't even remember why we began this journey, or was there ever a "we" in this? I was merely a spectator in all this. You came as lightning, and then you left a calm breeze of coldness. Anyway, returning to the journey, it was an unexpected one to be exact; with you, things have been pretty unexpected. It's never "here and there" in the plan—it's always right now and no later. You wished to reach the top, and you started walking; I followed you along.

There were not many people on the way. Was it even a path travelled? Maybe, or maybe not. There were, here and there, some rough patches made by people occasionally walking down. But one cannot be sure whether it was made by travellers or lost souls like us—or just me.

I carried a few words that I wished to speak if I had the opportunity to. No matter how many times I tried, they were never enough, so after my 10th attempt, I left it to fate and mere faith in my heart to spill out at least something of what I wished to say.

But when I reached the top, I was alone. The view was the best, and the peace was making me more and more grounded. I wanted to search for you, but I wasn't looking, as if I knew you had reached where you wanted to.

But there you were, far away from me, looking at the flowers that have grown in the care of these majestic mountains. In that moment, you both looked the same to me. It would have hurt me if someone had plucked those flowers, and it will hurt me if someone holds you to match their pace.

Note from me -
